Little Malvern Court & Gardens

A 15th Century Prior's Hall nestled in The Malvern Hills

Welcome to the 2020 Season

"Welcome to Little Malvern Court and Gardens, the home of the Berington family by descent since the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 1530s.”

Coronavirus Statement - June 2020

IMPORTANT UPDATE - THE GARDENS (ONLY) ARE OPENING:

We Open on Wednesday 10th JUNE until Thursday 23rd July

In the light of the easing of lockdown measures, we are pleased to announce that as from 10th June 2020, we will once again be welcoming visitors back to the Garden at Little Malvern Court, but with reduced numbers in order to ensure that everyone can comply with the required social distancing measures and with certain guidelines to ensure the safety of our visitors.

The House and Courtyard Tea Room, together with the WC’s will remain closed, therefore there are NO FACILITIES AVAILABLE.

To ensure the safety of our visitors and staff alike, we have introduced a new system for visiting the Garden at Little Malvern Court.

The 14th century Prior’s Hall – once attached to the 12th century Benedictine Priory, with its tower dominating the views, is open to visitors. Little Malvern Court has been splendidly restored by the late Tom and Olguita Berington in the 1960’s.

Inside you can admire the various family portraits and European paintings and furniture. View the medieval roof with its cusped wind braces, and a collection of needlework and religious vestments from the 18th and 19th centuries. Stepping outside, there are 10 acres to explore, along with the magnificent views to enjoy over the Severn Valley. Visitors should look out for the giant lime tree, sadly now damaged by storms over the past decade, but still standing for over 250 years as well as the topiary yew hedge, planted by William Berington in the early years of the last century.

There are magnificent cedar trees, planted from seeds brought back from the Holy Land by Charles Michael Berington. The chain of lakes, formerly fish ponds for the monks, follow the layout from a plan dated 1720 and, like much of the present garden, were restored in the 1980’s. Whether you visit us in Spring or Summer, there is so much to see, I do hope you enjoy your visit.
